Antennagate Coming to an End

Apple has announced that they will cease giving away a free bumper case on September 30th 2010 for the iPhone 4.

The announcment was made on there website yesterday and said

We now know that the iPhone 4 antenna attenuation issue is even smaller than we originally thought. A small percentage of iPhone 4 users need a case, and we want to continue providing them a Bumper case for free. For everyone else, we are discontinuing the free case program on all iPhone 4s sold after September 30, 2010.

However, the interesting thing is that if you do purchase an iPhone 4 after the 30th it would appear that if you ring Apple Care you would still be able to get one. So why this announcement? Either they are going to stop giving away free cases or not.

One thing Apple could do is take a leaf out of Blackberry’s book and actually include some form of case in the 1st place. I know that the case that Blackberry include serves a dual purpose but for the amount of money that either you spend on buying the phone outright or even on contract you should have some of protection of the phone itself  but also to protect from dropping any calls.  Why do you think?  Do you think that Apple should include a case as standard?  If so why not drop us a comment.
